Geode supports importing common audio and video formats, including MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, MP4, and MOV files. Individual files can be up to 3 hours long.
Does using Geode require an internet connection?
No — Geode is built to work offline by default. Recording, on-device transcription, and translation can all run without an internet connection. On Mac, on-device summaries can run offline too. Internet access is only needed for downloading the app, verifying your subscription, app updates, optional cloud transcription or cloud summaries when you explicitly choose to use them, and optional crash reporting or analytics sharing if you enable those settings. By default, Geode’s core workflows run on your device, and your recordings, transcripts, and summaries do not leave your device.
What is Geode and what can it do?
Geode is a private transcription app for Mac and iPhone that works directly on your device. It records, transcribes, summarizes, and translates conversations, with your audio staying on your device by default.
Use Geode for meetings, interviews, calls, lectures, personal voice notes, and audio playing in apps on your iPhone or Mac. It’s built for real conversations and longer recordings — with local processing by default, and cloud transcription or summaries only when you choose to.
Which languages does Geode support?
Geode supports transcription in 90+ languages, as well as translation for multilingual audio. Performance can vary by device and model.
Supported languages include English, Chinese, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Arabic, and Hindi, among many others.
Why can transcription pause when I switch apps on iPhone?
On iPhone, some on-device transcription tasks may pause when you switch apps because iOS limits background access to processing resources. If this happens, return to Geode to continue the transcription.
How can I improve transcription accuracy?
For best results, use clear audio, reduce background noise, keep speakers close to the microphone, and review names, numbers, and technical terms against the source audio.
On Mac, Geode also supports higher-accuracy transcription and speaker separation. Optional cloud transcription is available when you need more accuracy.
Can Geode be used with Zoom, Teams, or Google Meet?
Yes. Geode can be used with Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Webex, Slack, Discord, and other apps. It does not rely on meeting bots or direct integrations, so you can record and transcribe meetings, conversations, and in-app audio directly on your device.
Does Geode support summaries? Are they local or cloud-based?
Yes — summary support depends on your device.
On Mac, Geode supports on-device summaries, with optional cloud summaries also available. On iPhone and iPad, summaries are available through optional cloud processing.
Cloud summaries are optional, not required.
Geode is still useful without them, but they’re available when you want more detailed summaries or a different summary style.
Does Geode support custom summary templates?
Yes — Geode supports customizable summary templates. They’re useful when you want more structured summaries for interview notes, meeting recaps, research summaries, or other formats you use regularly.
How can I delete or manage my records?
You can manage your recordings and transcripts directly inside Geode. You can rename them, organize them, review them, or delete anything you no longer need.
What’s the difference between the iPhone and Mac apps?
Both apps are complete on their own, but they’re built for different kinds of use.
The iPhone app is built for recording, on-device transcription, translation, and everyday transcript review, with cloud transcription and summaries available when you choose them.
The Mac app is built for deeper local work. It offers higher-accuracy transcription, speaker separation, and on-device summaries with customizable templates.
Can Geode handle long recordings?
Yes. Geode is built for long recordings, including meetings, interviews, lectures, field recordings, and long voice notes. One of its key advantages is that your core workflow does not become more expensive the more you use it.
How is Geode different from cloud meeting tools?
Cloud meeting tools are usually designed for online meetings, shared notes, and team collaboration. They can work well in those settings, but for long recordings, field conversations, or sensitive audio, costs are often tied to usage and your audio has to be processed in the cloud.
Geode is different. Its core workflow runs locally by default, which keeps costs more predictable and keeps your content on your device unless you choose cloud features.
How is Geode different from other local transcription tools?
Some local tools are strong at transcription, but the workflow often ends at the transcript. If you want summaries, translation, review, or more structured results, you may end up copying text into another tool, adding extra steps, or sending content to the cloud.
Geode is different. It keeps recording, transcription, summaries, translation, and review together in one workflow.
Can I record in-person conversations?
Yes. Geode can record in-person conversations using your device microphone. It works well for interviews, meetings, voice notes, and field recordings.
Why is transcription or summary generation slow on my device?
Geode relies heavily on local AI processing, so speed depends on your device’s CPU, GPU, RAM, thermal limits, and current workload.
If processing feels slow, close heavy background apps, make sure your device has enough free space, and try again when your device is under less load. Optional cloud transcription or cloud summaries are also available when you choose them. In general, Macs provide the strongest local performance.
Is Geode suitable for sensitive conversations?
Yes. Geode is designed for people who handle long, sensitive, or confidential conversations and want local processing by default.
That includes consultants, researchers, interview-based professionals, and other workflows where privacy, cost control, and keeping content on your own device matter.
How does Geode process data? Is it secure?
Yes. Geode is designed to keep your data secure. Core recording, local transcription, speaker separation, and local summarization where available run on your device by default. If you choose optional cloud transcription or cloud summaries, only the data needed for that task is sent securely for processing. Uploaded audio is deleted immediately after the cloud task is completed, and crash reporting and product analytics are off by default.
Where is my data stored?
By default, your recordings, transcripts, and local summaries stay on your device.
If you choose optional cloud transcription or cloud summaries, only the content needed for that task is transmitted securely for processing. Uploaded audio is deleted immediately after the task is completed.
Is my data encrypted?
Yes. Geode is designed to keep your data secure. By default, core workflows run on your device. If you choose optional cloud transcription or cloud summaries, only the data needed for that task is sent securely for processing, with safeguards including encryption in transit. Crash reporting and product analytics are off by default and never include your audio, transcripts, summaries, or other user content.
Does Geode train AI models on my data?
No. Geode does not use your audio, transcripts, summaries, or other user content to train AI models. This applies to both local workflows and optional cloud features.
Does Geode use cloud features automatically?
No. Cloud transcription and cloud summaries are optional. Geode does not depend on them for its core value. You use them only when you want them.
Does Geode collect product analytics or crash logs?
Only if you choose to enable them. Crash reporting and product analytics are both off by default.
If you enable them, they help improve reliability and product quality, but they do not include your audio, transcripts, summaries, or other user content.
