Geode is an AI transcription software that records, transcribes, and organizes conversations with a privacy-first workflow. It works as a local transcription tool on your devices, so you can turn audio into clean notes without relying on cloud processing. Use it as a speech to text app for meetings, interviews, calls, and personal voice notes.
How is Geode different from other meeting recorders?
Geode is a meeting recorder alternative built around the workflow layer—not just a “local” slogan—so teams can produce usable outputs without drifting back into cloud dependency.
Compared with cloud-based tools, Geode is designed for privacy-first meeting transcription and aims to reduce cloud transcription risks that often show up over time: external processing, retention defaults, support/admin access paths, and expanding access surfaces as usage scales. When confidentiality matters, Geode is built so sensitive work can stay on devices you control—rather than requiring you to trust a third-party environment to remain perfectly governed.
Compared with other local/offline tools, Geode is designed to avoid the “basic local trap.” Basic audio recorders and Whisper wrappers can be fragmented: they may capture audio or output a raw transcript, but often lack the pieces that make the workflow complete—system audio capture, speaker separation, transcript review/editing, or native structuring. In practice, that fragmentation can push users to paste sensitive text into public cloud AIs to get summaries or structured notes—quietly reintroducing exposure. Geode focuses on making local AI meeting notes achievable end-to-end, so “local” stays local unless you deliberately choose otherwise.
In short: Geode helps reduce cloud transcription risks, supports local AI meeting notes, and makes privacy-oriented meeting transcription a repeatable workflow—not just a feature checkbox.
Features
What are the system requirements?
Geode runs best on newer devices with Apple Silicon for local AI performance. On iPhone, we recommend iPhone 12 or later. For Mac, we recommend at least 8GB of RAM for optimal performance with local AI features.
Which languages does Geode support?
Yes. Geode supports over 90 languages for offline transcription and translation.
Language availability may vary by device and model, but the goal is broad language support transcription so users can reliably convert spoken audio into text. If you’re working across regions, Geode provides real-time AI voice-to-text that instantly displays conversations in the language you actually speak.
Which audio/video formats does Geode support for import?
Geode supports common audio transcription formats and can import audio files that users typically export from meeting platforms, voice recorders, or phone recordings.
Formats supported: MP3、WAV、M4A、AAC、MP4、MOV.
Exact transcription file support depends on your device and app version, but the goal is to make importing standard audio/video sources straightforward.
Can Geode be used for Zoom/Teams/Google Meet meetings?
Yes. Geode works as a comprehensive meeting assistant to record, transcribe, translate, and summarize calls from any application on your computer—Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Webex, Slack, Discord, and more. It captures system audio, so it doesn’t depend on specific integrations for Zoom transcription or Teams transcription—it simply records what you hear and converts it into transcripts, translations, and AI summaries.
How can Geode improve transcription accuracy?
Because Geode processes audio locally on your device, accuracy is largely determined by the AI model you choose and the hardware you use. To get the highest quality transcripts:
Use high-performance hardware. Geode relies on your device’s GPU and CPU. For the best performance and accuracy, we recommend using a Mac with Apple Silicon chips (M1, M2, M3, or M4), which have dedicated Neural Engines optimized for AI tasks.
Download the “Large” model. The “Large” model contains more parameters and data points, offering significantly better accuracy than the standard models, though it requires more disk space.
Go to Settings > AI Models
Find the Large model and click to download.
3. Activate the Large model. Downloading the model does not automatically activate it. You must select it as your active engine.
Once the download is complete, go to Settings > Transcription
Under Transcription Model, select the Large model you just downloaded.
What’s the difference between the iPhone and Mac apps?
The Mac version is the full-feature Mac transcription app, offering high-precision offline transcription, multi-speaker separation, and advanced summaries—optimized for local AI transcription. The iPhone version is an iPhone transcription app focused on quick capture and fast on-device transcription; due to mobile hardware limits, accuracy and advanced features are more limited than on Mac.
Does Geode support custom summary templates?
Yes. Geode fully supports custom summary templates, allowing you to define exactly how the AI meeting summary tool structures your insights. You can create specific prompts or formats in Setting>Template to generate automatic meeting notes that match your team’s reporting style—whether you need a quick recap, a list of action items, or a detailed memo. With Geode’s flexible transcription summary engine, you have complete control to make the output fit your specific workflow.
How can I delete or manage my transcription records?
You can manage transcripts directly inside Geode—rename items, organize them, and remove what you no longer need. If you want to clear sensitive content, you can delete transcription records so they no longer appear in your transcription history. The product is designed so record management stays simple and user-controlled.
Why is the transcription and summary generation speed on my device so slow?
Geode uses local AI processing, so transcription and AI summary generation run with on-device AI resources instead of cloud servers. Speed depends on your device’s processing power (CPU/GPU), available RAM, and thermal limits. Closing heavy apps or using a more powerful device can noticeably improve Geode’s performance.
Can Geode handle long-duration recordings?
Yes. Geode supports long audio transcription without the upload limits or network timeouts often found in cloud services. It is designed for extended sessions, making it ideal for lectures and deep interview transcription. As a stable continuous transcription tool, Geode reliably captures hours of conversation on your Mac, ensuring you never miss a moment regardless of the duration.
Can I record in-person conversations?
Yes. Geode supports in-person conversation recording by capturing your microphone input, so you can record in-person meetings or any face-to-face conversation where your device can hear the audio clearly. It works well for interview transcription and local audio recording workflows when you want to keep capture and processing under your control. (Note: due to iPhone platform limitations, Geode does not record iPhone call audio.)
Why does transcription stop when switching to other apps on iOS?
This is due to iOS transcription limitations. Geode relies on local processing and needs access to the phone’s GPU for local GPU transcription and iOS AI processing limits apply: Apple does not allow third-party apps to keep using the GPU in the background. So offline transcription can pause when you switch apps—this is a common iPhone speech to text issues behavior for offline transcription iOS workflows. If it happens, return to Geode and tap “Resume Transcription” to continue.
Is Geode available on Windows or Android?
Today, Geode is focused on Apple platforms: a Mac transcription app and an iPhone transcription app. Cross-platform transcription is a common request, and Windows and Android are on our roadmap—Geode will expand beyond Apple over time. For now, the core experience is optimized as a high-performance mac app, with the iPhone companion designed for fast capture and quick on-device review.
What AI models does Geode use?
Geode uses two types of transcription AI models: speech to text (STT) models for transcription and large language models (LLMs) for summaries and structured notes. This setup supports fast transcription plus higher-level outputs like summary notes, making Geode useful as a meeting summary tool and an AI meeting summary tool for post-meeting review.
Privacy
Does using Geode require an internet connection?
No—Geode is designed to record, transcribe, translate, and summarize on your Mac entirely offline. Because it supports AI processing offline, you can record, transcribe and summarize without an active connection in typical on-device scenarios. If you’re in a restricted environment, Geode is designed for no internet transcription where practical.
How does Geode process data? Is it secure?
Geode is built for privacy transcription by keeping processing local whenever possible. As offline transcription tools, Geode can run on-device transcription so your audio doesn’t need to be uploaded for transcription and summaries. This architecture reduces exposure by default and supports a more secure transcription workflow for confidentiality-sensitive use.
Where is my data stored?
Geode is designed around local data storage, keeping your transcription data on your own device to support a privacy-first workflow. As privacy transcription software, Geode emphasizes on-device handling where practical.
Is my data encrypted?
Yes. Geode supports encrypted transcription by encrypting your data at rest on your device. Your transcripts and AI summaries are protected with industry-standard data encryption, supporting strong data security expectations for modern transcription software.
Does Geode comply with legal requirements for recording consent?
Recording consent rules vary by jurisdiction, so Geode cannot provide legal advice on recording consent laws. For organizations in regulated environments, treat this as a workflow decision that may involve internal policy and counsel. Geode is designed to support responsible use in scenarios involving transcription legal compliance, and teams should evaluate requirements such as HIPAA transcription rules or GDPR compliance based on their specific context and obligations.
Does Geode train AI models on my data?
No. Geode is built for AI data privacy and follows a “no AI training on user data” approach in its product design. If you’re looking for a private transcription app, Geode’s core principle is that your content should remain under your control rather than becoming training material.
Pricing
Is there a free or trial version of Geode available?
Yes. Geode offers flexible transcription software pricing with a Free Version, a Subscription Plan, and a one-time Lifetime Plan. New users get all Pro features through a 1-month free trial, which makes it easy to evaluate the full workflow. All premium features are unlocked for your first month, allowing you to fully evaluate Geode pricing and value before deciding.
Can I use my Pro license on all my devices?
Yes. Your transcription app license can be activated across your devices, enabling multi-device transcription and cross-device transcription under the same Apple ID. Once signed in, your devices can access Pro features for AI transcription and speech to text license benefits consistently.
What should I do if I encounter usage issues?
If something doesn’t work as expected, start by checking permissions (microphone/system audio), available storage, and your device performance settings. If you still need help, the fastest path is built into Geode: go to Settings > About and use the support option there to contact transcription support with your device model and app version. If the issue is a stability problem, use the same place to report crash details so our transcription tool support team can diagnose it faster.
